Last month I wrote about the passage of SB 9 and how it allows property owners to split a single-family lot into two lots, add a second home to their lot, or split their lot into two and place duplexes on each lot. This law had many of California’s 52,000 Homeowners Associations quite concerned. The fear was the law would allow owners in HOAs to bypass typical HOA restrictions of one dwelling unit per lot and build additional units. This month, I have some good news to report. The bill’s author, Toni Atkins, stated the law does not pertain to HOAs – “SB 9 would NOT override CID or HOA restrictions.” Watch the video below.
